A five day VTU-VGST sponsored faculty development programme was organized from 21st -25th February 2012 by the Department of Computer Science and Engineering at T. John Institute of Technology, Bangalore. The faculty development programme on Data Mining and Data Warehousing was targeted towards faculty members of engineering colleges affiliated to Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU). This programme was organized as part of a joint initiative by VTU and VGST , the Karnataka Government’s Vision Group on Science and Technology to give teachers an opportunity to explore research avenues and improve their knowledge.
The Faculty Development Programme intends to discuss the research challenges in science and engineering from a data mining perspective. Data mining is the process of applying problem solving methods to data with the intention of uncovering hidden patterns. It gleans nuggets of 'knowledge' out of complex, heterogeneous, voluminous, imprecise and unstructured data.
Academicians pioneering research in the field of data mining and data warehousing delivered lectures on the latest technologies. Industry experts gave hands-on training and demonstrations. The list of Guest speakers includes eminent academicians like Dr. Venugopal K. R.(UVCE,Bangalore University), Dr. G. Shobha (RVCE, Bangalore), Dr. P. Deepa Shenoy(UVCE, Bangalore University), Dr. G. T. Raju (RNSIT, Bangalore), Dr. N. Rajkumar (Sri Ramakrishna College of Engineering, Coimbatore), Dr. K. G. Srinivasa (MSRIT, Bangalore), Mr. Manjunath T. N. (Wipro, Bangalore), Dr. R. Umarani(Sri Sarada College for Women, Salem) and Dr. Kavya N. P. (RNSIT, Bangalore).
